Obtaining an Ohio Driver’s License and Car Registration

Drivers License

  1. Go to the driver’s examination station on Route 43 in Wintersville. If you have a valid driver’s license from another state, you will be required to take the written test only.
  2. Go to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles located at 4244 Sunset Blvd. and take the results of your written test with you. You will be issued your Ohio license here.

Vehicle Title, Registration, and Ohio Plates

To get an Ohio title, you must have an Ohio drivers license first.

  1. Take your current Vehicle Title to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. They will perform a Vehicle Inspection to verify that the serial number on your car matches that of the Title.
  2. Take the Vehicle Inspection notice and your old title to the Jefferson County Courthouse, Auto Title Department. They will issue the Ohio Title here. (The courthouse is located at the corner of Third and Market Streets in downtown Steubenville.)
  3. To register your car and get Ohio plates, take your Ohio license and title back to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles located at 4150 Sunset Blvd. Your registration and plates will be issued here.
